History
In 1988, Partnership for Eldercare was created to meet the needs of the growing number of men and women who were helping to care for their older relatives and friends.
A national corporation, headquartered in New York City, recognized the increasing proportion of caregivers in their workplace and became aware of the adverse effects of these responsibilities on productivity and morale. They approached the New York City Department for the Aging and a model public/ private response to these unique concerns was born. Partnership for Eldercare is currently a free standing not for profit program within the Aging in New York Fund, the philanthropic arm of the largest area agency on aging in the country. It is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older people and their families and our mission to serve the working caregiver is a perfect fit with the overall goals of the Fund. Over the years, we have grown and expanded our services to meet the changing needs of our corporate partners and to serve clients and families throughout the country. Due to increased life expectancy, women in the workplace and family mobility, caregiving issues are increasing rapidly. Family members continue to provide 80% of the care for the 95% of older people who live at home. Almost one half of these caregivers are also employed and many of them struggle with long distance issues as well as the other overwhelming tasks of helping an older relative.
Partnership for Eldercare has grown to serve over 60,000 employees across the country from several major corporations. We remain a model program as we provide high quality, low cost eldercare programs which will insure a positive result for both employer and employee - a less stressed and more productive employee and an excellent return on a investment for the employer.
In the news Partnership has been featured on New York Voices' on Thirteen WNET TV, WABC-TV News and the Wall Street Journal with compelling stones of how our program succeeds in assisting the working caregiver.
