About half reported that their caregiving responsibilities result in absenteeism, long lunch hours, late arrivals, and personal phone calls. Productivity losses for eldercare are estimated at $11.4 to $29 billion a year nationally. In New York City alone, the eldercare crisis costs city businesses $211 million a year. More than 40% of the caregivers are also caring for children under the age of 18. 94% of corporate executives say eldercare will become an increasing concern over the next five years. The number of companies offering eldercare programs has more than doubled since 1991. 42% of employees expect to assume eldercare duties within five years.
